The Digital NEST Member spotlight serves as a platform to celebrate and highlight the accomplishments of our talented youth. At Digital NEST, our primary objective is to support and empower the young individuals within our communities, providing them with a secure environment to explore their interests, connect with others, and soar to new heights. Digital NEST is dedicated to equipping underserved Latinx youth in California with the essential skills, resources, and connections needed to forge prosperous careers. Since 2014, we have successfully facilitated placing over 140 members in high-quality career-track jobs, internships, and/or college opportunities.
Axel “Max” Maximiliano Herrera is an extraordinary member of Digital NEST, making a remarkable impact on our community. With a membership spanning over five years, Max’s dedication and passion have been truly inspiring. His journey began in middle school when he joined Tech Squad, driven by a strong desire to learn about computer repairs and assist fellow members with their tech-related challenges. Max took advantage of our online classes during the pandemic and participated in the groundbreaking partnership between CTE (Career Technical Education), Ceiba (Ceiba College Preparatory Academy), and Digital NEST.
This year marks a significant milestone for Max as he successfully graduated from high school. He has now set his sights on San Jose State University, where he will pursue a degree in Computer Engineering. Max continues actively engaging with our organization, attending school, and participating in our workshops despite his busy schedule. Thanks to the invaluable support of our partner, Sueños, Max has been working with us since February. Recognizing his incredible work ethic and dedication, we made the decision to employ Max for the remainder of the fiscal year, even after he completed his training and reached the NEST hour capacity. The entire staff at Digital NEST holds Max in high regard and takes great joy in cheering him on. For instance, just the other day, Max arrived at his shift proudly displaying his driver’s permit, and the entire NEST team applauded to celebrate this milestone. We couldn’t be prouder of Max’s accomplishments and eagerly await extraordinary things he will achieve in the future. He can always count on our unwavering support as he strives towards his goals.
