Digital NEST opens

Nonprofit spurs digital dreams of Watsonville youth

Digital Nest is a newly opened nonprofit tech center in Watsonville for teens.

Jacob Martinez introduced a group of teens to Digital NEST, a nonprofit technology center dedicated to sparking innovation and entrepreneurship among Watsonville youth.

The center, open to ages 12-24, launched Nov. 17, and is signing up members interested in learning about and using technology. Membership is free, and provides access to the center’s 20 laptop computers, high-speed Internet connection, classes and mentors.

Martinez said companies like Cruzio in Santa Cruz are willing to train motivated young people.

“Digital NEST can help build your skills to compete for better paying jobs,” he told Sesma and her classmates.
