California Secretary of State Alex Padilla made a stop at Digital NEST during a trip to Watsonville in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
Padilla, who had been in Watsonville for the day visiting the Digital NEST and local schools, said it meant a lot to be there.
Despite participating in events as the secretary of state, Padilla still stopped to take selfies and connect with the young community.
“I remember when I was their age,” Padilla said. “Young people think like I did about politics. I couldn’t relate to it, it didn’t speak to me.”
To encourage their participation and future involvement in politics, Padilla said he tries to visit schools and groups like Digital NEST as frequently as he can.
