What is bizzNEST?

bizzNEST is an affordable, youth-staffed, fee-for-service tech consultancy that serves local and regional start-ups, small businesses, micro-enterprises and nonprofits.

What makes bizzNEST special is that we’re high-quality, affordable service staffed by emerging youth talent. Serving clients’ needs expands the marketing reach of their businesses, increasing their customer base helping them prosper. At the same time, the experience providing professional services to clients helps our youth consultants get the on-the-job experience they need to out-compete any of their peers for career-track jobs. Logistics

  1. I want a website or video! How do I contact you?
    We’re excited to work with you! First, fill out our screening form at: http://digitalnest.org/biznest-screening-form/ so we can get to know a little more about you and your needs.
  1. How long will it take to create a website/video?
    The time to complete a website or video will vary from project to project. Once we’ve covered all the information we need to know about your needs, we will be able to give you an estimate.
  1. What kinds of businesses do you work with?
    We work with small to medium-sized businesses in the region, including Watsonville/the Pájaro Valley, Santa Cruz, Salinas and Monterey.
  1. Who will I be working with?
    You will mainly be in communication with our Client Relations Manager, the bizNEST Manager, and Digital NEST youth Member-Consultants who are on producing your website or video.

Payments

  1. How much will my website or video cost?
    Prices will vary from project to project. We offer several packages for websites and videos that we will match to your needs. Our prices run at about 60% of the market price.
  1. Will there be any extra fees apart from the package price?
    If your needs fit perfectly within our standard packages, no. If your project requires additional effort or custom work then we typically charge $30 charge per additional hour. But please don’t try to guess at what your project needs and what that will translate into in terms of cost. Contact our staff to discuss the details of your project. We want to work with you if we can!
  1. Do you accept payment plans?
    Yes, we do! Our staff can design a payment plan that will involve a reasonable down payment combined with installments.
  1. How does billing work?
    We will send you an invoice every time a payment is due. Payments are due within 30 days of the send date.
  1. What forms of payment do you accept?
    Currently, we only accept checks made payable to:

  1. Am I able to remove the Digital NEST logo from my website/video?
    The Digital NEST logo may be excluded from videos in exchange with the payment of a $100 exclusion fee. Including our logo on websites that our Member Consultants build is consistent with industry practice. But we promise that our attractive, professionally-designed logo will only be displayed in an appropriate manner and not in any way that distracts from the presentation of your business, brand and content!

          1. I am totally new to this “website thing”. How does the whole process work?
          • Step 1: Pre-Development
            Once we’ve gotten to know you through the intake questionnaire, we will discuss all our packages and recommend one that fits your needs and budget. Then, we’ll offer you a selection of web templates to choose from. Then your design needs and choices go to our designers. They create sitemaps, wireframes, and mockups that show you how your site will look, what features it will have and how it will function for users.
          • Step 2: Development
            Then, our Member-Consultant developers, under the supervision of a NEST Manager, work to bring your website to life. You are consulted at several points in the process. When we know you’re pleased with the direction it’s going in, our designers complete the build.
          • Step 3: Post-Development
            Before publishing your website, you will be able to review it to ensure it’s exactly what you need it to be. Then, we publish it! We provide you with a one-on-one training session to show you the basics of maintaining and updating your site.
          1. Can you explain a little about the packages you offer?
          • The Basic Starter Package
            This is for people with a small budget whose needs are met with a simple website. We build these websites on the Weebly platform with free hosting. You have to buy a domain name, which typically costs around $12 a year.
          • The Works Package
            This is for people who want a more robust website and more functionality. We build these websites on WordPress, a platform with lots of capabilities. You have to pay for both hosting and a domain name for this package.
          • The Redesign Package
            This is for people who have an existing website that needs a major update. We also build these websites on WordPress. We make sure we get our best designers for this job.
          • The Maintenance Package
            If you have an existing website and you have a maintenance issue, like it got hacked, or you just don’t have anyone to update it and make sure it’s running properly, we can help! We will update you website and back it up once a week.
          • You will get more information about pricing and details about the packages when you complete the screening form and begin the intake process with our Client Relations Manager.
          1. What platform do you build your websites on?
            For the Works and the Redesign packages we build our websites on the open-source Content Management System (CMS) platform called WordPress For the Basic Starter package.we build our websites on Weebly.
          1. Do you work with other platforms like Joomla or Drupal?
            Unfortunately, we do not. But, we can refer you to our sister web design studios that do.
          1. Can you help me update my existing website that another web firm built?
            Yes, we have this service as part of our Maintenance package. However, if you need significant design changes to the website, you will need our Redesign package.
          1. Can you help me write content for my website?
            Unfortunately, we cannot. We need you to provide your own content, or we can refer you to another service provider who can help. We will, however, build your sitemap and create the Information Architecture that plans for the presentation of your content.
          1. Can you help me source photos for my website?
            Yes, we can. We will help you source stock photos from sites such as www.istock.com. We also have photographers and videographers available to produce custom photography and videos if needed.

Hosting

          1. Where is my website hosted?
            For the Starter package, your website will be hosted by the Weebly servers. This hosting is currently free of charge. For the other packages, we recommend bluehost.com for hosting services. Bluehost hosting costs 2.95 a month for a starter plan, a good choice for most websites. You may also choose any hosting provider you prefer.

Logistics

  1. I am totally new to this “video thing”. How does the whole process work?
  • Step 1: Pre-Production
    Once we’ve gotten to know you through the intake questionnaire, we will explain our packages to you and recommend one that fits your needs and budget. We’ll show your video templates you can choose from that will help you visualize what the final video will be like. Then, we take your desires to the crew!
  • Step 2: Production
    First things first- we will ask if you have any content you’d like us to include (like your logo, any footage you may have, etc). Then we’ll assemble a crew for your project. The crew might have all kinds of technicians – a director, producer, cinematographers, audio and lighting techies – but we will only use the crew members needed to get your production done well. Your crew, under the supervision of our professional manager, will complete the production needed for your project: principle photography, b-roll, and audio.
  • Step 3: Post-Production
    Once basic production is complete, we’ll proceed to editing, audio enhancements, color correction, adding special effects, etc. Then, you will be able to review it to ensure it’s exactly what you dreamed it would be. Once approved, your video will be finalized and encoded into the format of your choice.
  1. What kind of videos do you make?
    We specialize in videos that promote companies, brands and products, training videos and short documentaries.
  1. Do you film live events?
    Yes, we can film live events. If you need the event live-streamed, we require access to a fast online network and to the account you would like us to stream to.
  1. Do you provide still photography services?
    Yes. Currently we do custom work negotiated on a project-by-project basis but are also in the process of developing standard photography packages.
  1. What formats do I get my video in?
    You will receive your video as a .MP4 or .MOV file.
  1. Can I order DVDs?
    Yes! You can order DVDs.
  1. Can you upload it on a youtube account that I own?
    Yes, as long as you give us access we are more than happy to upload your file.
